 CAG Report Rajasthan Government funds Child Marriages 11 year old boys girls married



State Rajasthan –
The CAG report for the year ended March 31, 2011.

Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 defines who is the child .

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in its report said that
Rajasthan government is indirectly providing financial help for the unlawful act, that is child marriage under a number of social welfare schemes.

As per Law Marriage age is 21 years old for males and 18 year old for Females

At the time of marriage, the minimum age of boy and the girl should be 21 years and 18 years but found in 35 cases the law was broken not followed.

Sahyog Yojna a scheme provides financial assistance of Rs.10, 000 per girl to BPL families of Scheduled Castes for marriage of their first two girls between the age group of 18 and 21 years.

In its report CAG said that in 35 cases government provided gave financial assistance for the child marriage.

The state government stated in November 2011, that the financial assistance was given without obtaining age certificates on humanitarian grounds.
